Urls of Users’ Personalized Pages

Posted on: May 21, 2008

I wanted to blog about my observation on different urls of users’
personalized/start page in webapps. Now, We all know that the
reason for this is very self-explanatory and basic: to make the user’s
personalized page easier for all of us to remember.

I prefer in url format in users’ personalized page is just by appending
the username of your registered users in your web app. Examples of sites
are delicious, twitter. Other sites use “subdomains” to
identify a user and display their profile. Examples are friendster, Sulit.

Some sites ask users to provide keywords, or tags to customize their own
personalized page to replace system generated urls. In flickr.com,
you may optionally customize your own personalized page to replace some sort
of system generated UUID or something.
